Level up your knowledge of palatal expansion with the AIRWAY 360 course.

This is a research based "airway crash course" dedicated to helping you understand the dentally relevant aspects of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and airway physiology.  We'll explore the repercussions of mouth breathing and its associated symptoms, delving into the critical roles of nitric oxide and carbon dioxide in breathing and oxygenation.

Transitioning to the signs and symptoms of mouth breathing, we'll cover a spectrum including enlarged tonsils and adenoids, asthma, gingival inflammation, chapped lips, nasal congestion, ear infections, poor facial growth, and more.  Subsequently, we'll dissect the causes and effects of SDB, encompassing acid reflux, poor growth, obesity, bruxism, ADHD, and other contributing factors.

Navigating the landscape of sleep terminology and OSA classification for both adults and children, we will furnish SDB/OSA screening tools and suggestions.  Our exploration extends to CBCT volumetric airway analysis, offering insights into its relevance.  Moving forward, we'll scrutinize the most prevalent causes of SDB and delve into proactive measures to contribute to its treatment.

An exploration of ankyloglossia and myofunctional therapy follows, along with an overview of contemporary medical devices and procedures available for SDB/OSA treatment.  Through case discussions, we'll apply this knowledge in practical scenarios.  Finally, we'll examine the 2019 American Association of Orthodontists white paper on OSA, assessing its limitations and discussing how it can guide our engagement in SDB treatment alongside our medical colleagues.

In addition to our coverage of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and airway physiology, we are excited to offer a bonus module. This step-by-step guide will walk you through creating 3D before-and-after CBCT superimpositions using the Tx Studio (in-vivo) software. We'll navigate the entire process, from importing the volumes to aligning them and seamlessly scrolling through the before-and-after slices. Discover the efficiency of saving these superimpositions, allowing you to reload them effortlessly without the need for realignment. Join us as we demystify the intricacies of creating detailed 3D superimpositions, providing you with valuable skills for a smoother and more streamlined orthodontic imaging workflow. Let's dive into the world of CBCT superimpositions together!
